The Prompt Writer

Always have something to write about

Weekend Challenge #1

Well, as you can tell, I haven’t been able to update this site like I had planned on doing. Though it’s not a good thing for the site, it has been a good thing for me. I’ve been so busy helping other bloggers out, that my own blog has had to sit by the wayside and pout. It looked so sad and alone that I had to try and come up with something to make it look all happy again. So, I’m going to try something new. I’m going to work on posting at least once a week, but I have a whole new plan for everyone. I’m issuing a challenge.

My goal is to get everyone up and writing again. Not for profit, but just for fun. So, here’s what I’m planning on doing. I’m going to issue a writing challenge each weekend. I’d like to see as many people get in on this as possible. The rules are very simple-choose one of the prompts listed and write about it on your site, blog, freepages, whatever. From there, send me a link and I’ll post it where everyone can read it. This is only a creative writing exercise to get those creative juices flowing. There are no right or wrongs here, just writing for the love of writing.

So, here are the ideas for this week.

Write a story about an aging musician who’s trying desperately to hold on to the glory from days gone by.

Choose any famous painting from history and create a story behind the scene. Who were the people in the painting? Why were they in that particular scene? Create unique details about their lives.

Interview your favorite character from your childhood. This can be a literary character, a cartoon character, or your favorite television character.

Write out a scene, using as much dialogue as possible, between two people from history that could never have met each other. For instance, write a conversational scene between General Patton and Lizzie Borden.

Write an advertisement for some weird object. For instance, write up a piece that would people want to run out and buy their very piece of tree bark. This is only an example. Come up with the strangest things you can imagine, and make us want to buy it.

That’s a great exercise! I think I’m going to try the dialogue between two characters. I’ll shoot you a link when I’m done. Can’t wait to read everyone else’s stories!

    Hey Dina,

I can’t wait to read it. If you want, just post it to my contact page and I’ll take it from there. Also, invite all your friends to come and play along.
