The Prompt Writer

Always have something to write about

Talking About Tuesday

Well as you all can see, I missed several days in a row. But that’s ok because I was doing some real work. Anyway, I wanted to make sure I got this post done and ready to go. I wanted to come up with something really cool for all of you, something that I thought anyone and everyone could use. Honestly, I get a lot of my ideas from an odd place; my thesaurus. And in coming up with a different type of idea for today, I cam across something that hit me like a slap in the face.

I’ve heard a lot of professional writers talk about ways of creating the perfect dialogues for their stories. For some, dialogue is extremely easy, while others find it somewhat difficult. For me, it gives me new ideas for other stories. So, I’ve decided to create several bits of dialogue, that will hopefully spark a few story ideas in each of you.

“Excuse me, miss, I believe I asked for a toasted crust, not crusty toast”.

“No sir, I have no idea how your pants ended up in the janitor’s closet”.

“Captain, come quick. There’s a monkey in the control room”.

“I can’t believe she actually wore those to the prom”.

“You need to go in there and have a talk with your son about the areas of the body a man is supposed to shave”.

“Yes mother, I know you want grandchildren. No mother, I’m not trying to kill you. Yes mother, I know how old I am”.

“Excuse me sir, can you help me? I’m looking for the back door”.

“I think I found the problem. You have to actually take it out first”.

“Of course I love you. I just don’t like you very much”.

“Um, Mr. Callahan? I don’t think you’re supposed to eat those”.

There you go, kids. Use these however you like. Twist them around, use them together, or expand on them. Whatever works for you, as long as you have fun.
