Monday Memoirs 1-5-09
Sometimes looking back on the past can help you find things to write about for the future. That’s why I’ve decided to add Monday Memoirs to the weekly line-up. You’ll be amazed at how something from your past will spark an idea for writing ideas today.
.) How did your family spend the holidays when you were a kid? Did you always go to the same family member’s homes? Did you spend time with different members on different years? Write about how you spent your childhood holidays.
.) Of everything you’d ever received as a Christmas present, which were the ones you’ll never forget because of how cool they were, and which were the ones you wished you could forget?
.) Did your family ever have special traditions that had been passed down for many generations? Do you still follow that tradition? Are you passing that tradition on to your own children?
.) Of all the New Year’s resolutions you’ve ever made, which are the ones you’ve stuck to and which are the ones that lasted only a few days/weeks?
.) Did you have a certain family member that always made an appearance around the holidays? Write about that person and why it is that you remember them so well.
.) Of all the things you’d received as gifts, what was the one thing you’d always hoped for but never seemed to get?
.) Was there ever a certain food made during the holidays that you just couldn’t stand? Write about it and tell why it was you hated it so much.
.) Were you ever jealous about something that a sibling or friend had gotten for Christmas? Discuss what that thing was and how it affected you at the time.
.) What was the one thing about the holidays that you have always wished you could change? Do you still feel that way, or have you found that it wasn’t that big of a deal?
.) When did you realize the whole concept of New Year’s Eve? Did your family throw big parties? Or were you shuffled off to a sitter’s in order for your family to go out on the town?
