Creative Writing Ideas for December

Writing Prompts - - Posted on December, 2 at 12:40 am

With this being the first day of December, I thought it only fitting to get a few writing prompts out for the month.  There are a lot of things going on this month, besides Christmas.  So, here are some ideas that you might find interesting, inspiring, or at least amusing.

1.) How did the poinsettia come to be associated with Christmas?
2.) How would you explain snow to someone who has never seen, felt, or experienced this sensation before?
3.) Write a short play about a day in the life of a Christmas tree ornament.
4.) Choose your favorite winter sport and write a history about how the sport was started, who, if any, are some of the more well known athletes from the sport, and what you believe the future holds for the sport.
5.) Write a comedic story about a group of strangers getting caught in a snowstorm.
6.) Write a story using the following props: A snowstorm, a loaf of french bread, an old photograph.
7.)Create an article about how some of the different aspects of Christmas holidays came to be, like Christmas trees, stocking by the chimney, and maybe even explain why we associate eggnog with this time of year.
8.) What is the one gift you’ve received, for Christmas-birthday-anniversary, that made you want to ask the other person what they were thinking?  Tell your readers about it in as much detail as possible.
9.) Write a report about the different organizations in your area that help under privileged children during the holidays.
10.) If you could go anywhere in the world, would you choose an area with snow or sun?  Explain why.

There you go, ten different ideas that should at least get your creative juices flowing.  As always, you may use these ideas as you see fit, but if you do use something from here, let us know so we can announce it to the world and everyone can stop by to have a look.

Your topic choices are interesting especially the one with “poinsettia associated with Christmas”. I will gladly put that up in my essay in the days to come.

“Write a short play about a day in the life of a Christmas tree ornament.” — that could be a pretty interesting story, especially if there was a cat in the house. ;)

LOL, kinda what I was thinking. I got the idea from one of my kids’ writing assignments in school. They had to write a story from the point of view of one of their shoes. LOL
