Believing In Your Dreams

Dreams are the stuff that miracles are made from. Since the dawn of time, we’ve dreamed of reaching the stars, and beyond. We dream for our children, we dream for those in need, and we dream of a better life for all. Without our dreams, we become blank and lost. Allow yourself to dream for all the things that make you smile, and never give up on your dreams.

1.) As children, we all dreamed of becoming something cool. What did you want to be and how did you plan on getting there?
2.) You see the same person in your dreams every night for a week, then see them walking down the street. What do you do?
3.) Write a story about how a single dream brings two people from different parts of the world together.
4.) Most people have at least one dream during their lifetimes that they just can’t seem to shake. What was that dream for you, and why do you still remember it so well?
5.) Do you believe that there are hidden meanings in dreams? Why or why not?
6.) Tell everyone about the man/woman of your dreams.
7.) Have you ever done something because you saw it in a dream? If so, what was it and how did it turn out?
8.) Was being a writer (or whatever your chosen profession may be) always your dream? When did you realize that you wanted to be in your chosen profession?
9.) What was your parent’s dreams for you as a child? Did they help steer your direction, or did they help you to realize your own dreams?
10.) Have you ever dreamed about a place you know you’ve never been, but feel as though you’re right at home? Explain.

My dream was to be a writer. My mother wanted me to be a writer, from the time I started writing she swore that it would be my profession. Writing is just something that I’ve always done. But life got hectic, and the next thing I knew I was in the slippery slope of life–you know? That part where you’re closer to the end than to the beginning? And it does feel like a slippery slope, it just seems to go so much faster.

But on the flip side, I don’t have to take care of everyone else anymore. I can claim some of my time as my own — and well deserved. I can tell them to back up from the desk and go make their own damned ham sandwiches. Stop distracting the little mouse on the wheel in my brain. And I’m finally at an ornery enough age to say it too.

I’ve always wanted to be a writer also. I wrote my first story in the 4th grade. We had a writing assignment where we had to invent something based on our names. At the time, my maiden name was Wickwire so I invented a burglar alarm made from 100 ft. of candle wick and 100 ft. of barbed wire. I got an A and a lifetime love affair with writing.

I never had the chance to go to college, so everything I’ve learned about writing, I learned on my own. I’m living proof that you can believe in your dreams and actually see them happen. :)
